The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's (FRB-C) Large Financial Banking Organizations Division (LFBO), which sits within the Supervision and Regulation (S&R) Department, is comprised of banking risk specialists who supervise the largest, most complex domestic and foreign banking organizations within the 7th District. Members of the Large Bank Supervision job family provide supervisory oversight through continuous monitoring and examination activity by engaging with institution executives who have a knowledge of their functional or risk area. LFBO is looking for a Large Bank Examiner to work within a dedicated team with a primary focus on supervising the payments function at a large financial institution. The role will also provide an opportunity to assess the institutions consumer banking business line risk management and financial performance.

The Large Bank Examiner uses specialty expertise to identify risks through on-and off-site examination and monitoring activities to ensure the firm is operating in a safe and sound manner and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Candidates should have a sound baseline knowledge of payment systems and practices to challenge senior management at the institution and to further supervisory knowledge internally. The position will involve ongoing review of institution-provided information related to payments and consumer banking business lines, identifying topics for and leading regular discussions with institution management, and developing conclusions and communicating an assessment of business lines within quarterly written analyses. The position will also involve monitoring of payments and consumer banking industry trends and developments, and coordination with supervisory staff and business line risk specialists across the Federal Reserve System. Additionally, as a member of a large bank dedicated supervisory team, the position will include facilitating peer discussions and looking across different risk stripes and business lines to identify overarching observations, as well as engaging in other supervisory work across the team and department as deemed necessary.

The level of work is considered intermediate, and you must be able to work under general supervision. You will have no direct reports and will report to a Supervision Manager.

Your Responsibilities

Consult on and serve as a technical resource relating to payments and consumer banking practices for a broad range of supervisory issues within the department and District.
Perform ongoing supervision by meeting with firm management and reviewing firm submitted materials to ensure objective assessment of payments and consumer banking risk management systems, policies and procedures, and compliance with laws and regulations.
Ensure understanding of key risks and drivers related to payment services and consumer banking businesses at a financial institution.
Prepare and deliver clear and persuasive findings in formal written and verbal presentations on supervisory conclusions and relevant issues to financial institution and senior Reserve Bank management.
Develop relationships with the team, division and department.
Showcase the ability to challenge internal and external individuals, when necessary, in a respectful wayin order to obtain the necessary information.
Provide constructive feedback to exam team members.

Your Background

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Four plus years of direct work-related experience

Demonstrate independent and critical thinking and decision-making abilities as well as strong written and oral communication abilities.
Demonstrate a sound understanding of risk management concepts.
Possess the ability to provide constructive feedback to less experienced team members.
Possess teamwork skills and the ability to build and work collaboratively within and across work teams.
Demonstrate the ability to manage time and projects effectively by adjusting quickly to new and different priorities.
Possess a general business acumen.
Prior professional background experience in payments and consumer banking risk analysis in a banking environment is helpful but not required.
Federal Reserve System Examiner Commissioning or progress towards Commissioning preferred

Location

This position will be based in the Chicago office and is consider hybrid, which means your presence will be required in the office at least 2 days a week
