Fleet Driver Coach, Backhaul Specialist Position Overview: Johnsonville has a commitment to become the best company in the world by offering the highest quality products and maintaining a work environment that requires personal growth and superlative performance by each member. We are looking for an organized, critical thinker, with a passion for developing people to join the Transportation Team as a Fleet Driver Coach. The role of the Fleet Driver Coach, Backhaul Specialist, is to plan, safely dispatch and manage driver events. The Backhaul Specialist will drive safety, service and truck revenue through cooperation and candor with drivers and team members. Bring your experience to our Transportation team to influence, direct and develop the future for Johnsonville's Private Fleet! Responsibilities:

  • Support and participate in safety initiatives and goal attainment
  • Coach, develop and empower Fleet Drivers
  • Manage driver payroll and schedules
  • Schedule delivery appointments
  • Execute/manage day-to-day dispatch operation including driver selection, revenue management and service levels in compliance with hours of service regulations
  • Work with Johnsonville Members, 3PL's and customers to meet delivery goals
  • Develop and direct backhaul/headhaul opportunities leveraging direct and 3PL shipper contracts to maximize revenue.
  • Identify and implement cost savings opportunities/perform route analysis
  • Identify service improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions
  • Become a subject matter expert in Transportation Management system (Trimble, TMW)
  • Continuous improvement, use of root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Support standard operating procedures (SOP) as required to support cohesive business rules and expectations.
  • Support and participate in achieving department goals and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field is preferred

Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in transportation, driver management/dispatch required
  • Demonstrated experience in refrigerated truckload and multi-stop shipments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety regulations e.g. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) preferred
  • Applied knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Previous experience in transportation (carrier/fleet) cost/spend analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with trucking load boards i.e., DAT, Truckstop.com, etc. preferred.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) is preferred e.g. TMW Suite.
  • Ability to create strategic and tactical plans.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a team and creating an environment of ownership.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others.
  • Negotiating skills and a general knowledge of truckload pricing, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated drive in achieving results, taking calculated risks and innovation.
  • Coachable, self-starter that can manage competing priorities with attention to detail.
