Principle Mechanical Engineer (Wakefield, MA)


Our client, a technology company and provider of robotics for the Semiconductor industry, experiencing dynamic growth, is currently hiring for their Mechanical Engineering Team a Principle Mechanical Engineer. Scope of the Principle Engineer is a true Principle- SME They review and provide guidance to Sr. and Jr. Staff. Project Leadership. They have a "clear, blue sky to make decisions. Many projects they will be assigned will not have many requirements, and with no guidance, they will be expected to be able to run with, starting with building requirements.


Qualifications:

Musts: Machine Design, they design robotics, they need Engineers who can design automated, capital equipment (core of what they do is design mechanical machinery). Anyone who is designing machinery, makes automated machinery, designs new products, making prototypes, solving problems, is the right person.


The Principal Mechanical Engineer will bring their experience and expertise to the strong engineering team (a growing, leading provider of robotic automation for the semiconductor industry). As the highest level of engineer, the person in this position will create innovative solutions to complex and technically challenging engineering problems that lead to market-changing robotic products. Working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to design robotics starting at a conceptual level and also to guide and provide technical direction to less senior staff.


Responsibilities and Deliverables:

Create concepts for products based on input from Applications Engineers and/or customers.

Create detailed designs using parametric 3-D CAD tools.

Create mechanical drawings for parts, sub-assemblies, and top level assemblies.

Create assembly drawings and procedures.

Analyze mechanisms and machine elements for life, stress, deflection, constraints.

Choose standard components, such as bearings, encoders, connectors, hardware, etc.

Choose the proper fabrication technique for parts and assemblies, machining, welding, forming, etc.

Determine tools and techniques for building, testing, troubleshooting, packaging, and installing products.

Present concepts, mechanical details, and analyzes to customers internal and external.

Train technical resources on the assembly and troubleshooting of mechanisms.

Create design and test documentation such as Engineering Design Specification (EDS), and Design Verification Test (DVT) reports.

Design tests to ensure mechanisms and components perform as required.

Perform assembly and testing during New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.

Support procurement for NPI projects by working with internal team and local suppliers.

Support manufacturing activities for NPI projects.


Skills Required:

The ability to design and analyze mechanisms and machine elements.

The ability to present designs, concepts, and analyses to a technical audience that conforms to engineering standards.

The ability to document analyses and designs in a way that conforms to engineering standards.

The ability to troubleshoot and problem solve as it relates to mechanisms.

The ability to lead and guide other technical employees.


Experience Required:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer must have 15+ years of experience in design and development of mechanical products.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer must have 5+ years managing personnel or leading development teams.

Education Required: B.S. or M.S. degree in Engineering or related discipline.
